The verdict for school administrators

SchoolCues is a real choice for the smallest faith-based schools at a $75 flat monthly rate. Sycamore is the platform for the 100 to 1,000 student private school: native iOS + Android apps with a 4.8-star combined rating, banking-grade payments, real donor intelligence, public API, and 46+ countries.

Schools moving from SchoolCues to Sycamore are usually growing past the micro-school tier and need three things: a parent app families actually like, banking-grade payments depth via the TuitionEP backbone, and a public API for integrations. SchoolCues has real strengths at the smallest scale and in the faith-school niche.

Sources include SchoolCues product pages, SchoolCues Q1–Q2 2025 roadmap posts, Capterra, G2, the Apple iOS store and App Store listings, and Sycamore's published pricing and press releases. Updated May 2026.
The scorecard

Round by round,
Sycamore takes 11 of 14.

These are the 14 categories administrators most often score during platform reviews. Three go to SchoolCues (raw price for sub-50 micro-schools, faith-school niche depth including Islamic Zakat/Sadaqah donations, and personal co-founder-led customer support). The other eleven favor Sycamore.

One platform

Built as one product, not assembled from several.

SchoolCues built a legitimate product for very small faith-based schools at a low price point. It has real depth in the Islamic faith niche (Zakat and Sadaqah support in donations). The trade-off is everything that compounds as a school grows: a parent app at 3.6 stars, no public API, no multi-currency, no international, invoices reviewers say do not meet FSA and tax guidelines.

Sycamore's combined 4.8-star Parent App rating reflects banking-grade payments depth and a single experience across cafeteria, tuition, grades, and communications. SchoolCues sits at 3.6 stars on Google Play with reviewer complaints about random app closes and a payment center that won't load.

Switching

Live before the next term,
in 4 to 8 weeks.

Most schools complete a full migration from SchoolCues to Sycamore in 4 to 8 weeks. SchoolCues data is exportable and Sycamore's US-based onboarding team handles the mapping. The variable is whether the school is also growing past 100 students and adopting tools SchoolCues does not offer.

Concerns we hear most

The six questions every head of school asks first.

Will family history transfer cleanly?

Yes. Student, family, grade, attendance, and tuition history transfer in full from SchoolCues. Sycamore validates the imported records against your SchoolCues exports before go-live so nothing is lost in the move.

Can we switch mid-year?

Yes, but it's the harder path. Mid-year cutovers are more complex than summer or end-of-year switches, especially around in-progress tuition plans and grading periods. We will be straight with you about the lift; schools that need to do it still do, most often at the start of a term.

Do parents have to re-enter payment info?

Sometimes. Whether saved cards and ACH details transfer depends on SchoolCues's current payment processor. When secure token portability is supported, families see no change. When it is not, families re-add their payment method through a one-screen flow in the Sycamore Parent App. Either way, Sycamore drafts the parent communications.

What happens to tuition plans already in progress?

Plans are reset and recreated in Sycamore. Sycamore's team rebuilds each active plan at the same amount, cadence, and remaining balance, then reconciles against SchoolCues so nothing is double-charged or missed. Families see the same payment schedule they already expected.

What does the switch actually cost?

$2,500 minimum onboarding investment. That covers your dedicated migration lead, data validation, training, and parent communications. After go-live, the school's recurring invoice is the published $4 per student per month plan with no separate module fees.

When do we cancel SchoolCues?

On your schedule. Some schools cancel SchoolCues as soon as Sycamore's staging environment passes validation. Others run both in parallel for weeks or months, especially when the contract overlaps go-live or the business office wants extra time to reconcile. Sycamore will not push you to cancel until you are ready.

Bring this to the kickoff call.

If you have these items ready, week 1 turns into half a week.

Frequently asked questions

Answers school leaders most often ask before switching.

SchoolCues is built for very small faith-based schools at a $75 flat monthly rate. Sycamore is built for the 100 to 1,000 student private school: native iOS + Android apps with a 4.8-star combined rating, banking-grade payments via TuitionEP, public API for integrations, donations with AI donor intelligence, Tuition Refund Protection, and 46+ countries served.

For schools under 50 students, yes. $75 per month flat works out to roughly $900 per year. For a 100-student school, SchoolCues is roughly $1,200 per year versus Sycamore at $4,800. The question is what each one includes: Sycamore covers banking-grade payments, public API, donations + AI, refund protection, and 46+ countries. SchoolCues covers a focused all-in-one for micro-schools.

Sycamore Parent App combined with TuitionEP sits at 4.8 stars. SchoolCues Parent App on Google Play sits at 3.6 stars across 10,000+ installs, with reviewer complaints about random closes and the payment center not loading.

Reviewers consistently report no public API. Sycamore offers a public API and integrations with the broader K-12 ecosystem.

SchoolCues is effectively US-only with one Canadian-schools page. No multi-currency, no multi-language UI. Sycamore serves paying schools in 46+ countries with multi-currency support.

SchoolCues offers donation forms with thoughtful niche support for Islamic Zakat and Sadaqah — a real strength for that faith community. Sycamore is rolling out a native donations module with AI donor intelligence in 2026 from the TuitionEP acquisition; that intelligence layer is a different angle than donation forms.

Most schools complete a full migration in 4 to 8 weeks. SchoolCues markets a 3-day setup; its own implementation guide concedes 2 to 4 months for real implementations. Sycamore's US-based onboarding team handles the mapping and validation.

Reviewers report SchoolCues invoices 'do not meet FSA and tax guidelines.' Sycamore produces standard tax-compliant invoice formats.

Yes, but the value compounds as the school grows past 100 students. For a 30-student micro-school on a tight budget, SchoolCues's $75 flat tier is legitimately cheaper. For 100+ student schools that want banking-grade payments, real donor intelligence, and international support, Sycamore wins.

Sycamore is shipping a 3-experience AI showcase in May 2026: Student AI Recap, Donation AI, and a Lifecycle map. SchoolCues issued a May 13, 2026 press release announcing AI features at the marketing level, with no specific capabilities detailed.
